10,000 Downloads (and more on graphs) (13.10.2016)

Yesterday evening someone downloaded the 10,000th copy of waterline magazine! That's truly amazing and, yes, I'm proud of this success. It's great to see that this magazine has such a wide acceptance and that you appreciate my work, esp. those of you who simply cannot afford expensive training materials. I can imagine that it's hard for someone in India or Brazil to spend 50, 60, or even more $$ on videos or courses.

Almost 100 nice people left comments on the website and said "thanks". That's really fantastic.

waterline magazine "RealFlow Fields and Graphs"

One reader pointed me to an issue with parameter names inside graph nodes. I simply didn't consider that graphs are case sensitive and that it makes a difference, whether you write "viscosity" or "Viscosity". And the funny thing is that "viscosity" is the correct notation. I'll go through the magazine within the next 3-4 weeks and provide an update version. Feel free to download it once it's out - just keep an eye on this website.

Removing particles from cached files

I think this has been an issue since the very early days of RealFlow and I remember discussions about it in Next Limit's first RF forum, which has been closed some 10 years ago, and the unofficial board.

Now I had an offset of particles in a Hybrido simulation. These particles were hidden in the final render, but there were many of them: almost 6 millions, while the visible part was 3.5 millions. Ok, it's possible to clip these particles at meshing time, but that's a slooooow process. Furthermore, I wanted to render particles, not meshes.

With the help of the "RealFlow Fields and Graphs" issue's "k Object" graph I'm able to remove particles in a post process from a Hybrido domain in cache mode, and save, or better overwrite the particles files. It's true that this process takes some time with large particle counts, but it's an effective way to clean up scenes, create smaller simulation files, and speed up rendering and even meshing - esp. if you want to clip your meshes. So, it's worth applying this graph when you have lots of surplus particles. Of course, this method works with other particle sources as well.

Now you're certainly curious about this graph, but some more patience please. There will be an "event", where the graph will be made available. Just watch this website/blog and then you'll be informed right in time.
